Tuesday 2nd June - Longreach

Tuesday 2nd June

On Tuesday we went to school of the air. At school of the air there studios that students and their teachers talk and do lessons together.
This a teacher teaching a child.
At school of the air we also had a tour. After school of the air we went back to the air QANTAS museum and a had another long tour in 3 planes after that tour Mum Caleb and I had lunch while Dad went on a tour that Caleb and I couldn't go on because we weren't old enough.

This is me in a airplane motor.

After the QANTAS museum we drove to Winton. After the we set up the campervan we went to a hotel for dinner. At the hotel Caleb and I got  fish chips and garlic bread. The fish was very fishy but the garlic bread and chips were yummy.

Mum's note:
The Founders Museum was given a Boeing 747 for a present by Qantas on Qantas' 82nd birthday. In theory it is still commissioned, but it would be nigh on impossible to get it out of Longreach again as the runway is far too short.
The Boeing 747.
There is also a Boeing 707 in the "birdcage" at the museum. This plane was once fitted out like a luxury yacht inside, and was rescued from decay in England to be preserved at the museum.
We were able to walk through both aircraft. We also heard about the DC-3, the first plane to make passenger flights profitable for airlines.

The DC-3.
If you have a close look at the picture of the 747 tyre above you will see a flat spot. This is the damage done to a tyre every landing. This tyre has only ever done one landing, the one at Longreach.
The "black boxes" of the 747. The rumours are correct, they are not black.
Dad was lucky enough to do the Wing Walk tour, where you get to walk out on the wing of the 747 and go into the cargo hold, as well as sit in the pilot's seat.
